Join The Vision And Change The Lives Of The Children of Tremesse

Every dollar donated goes directly to Haiti.

Hands for Haiti is a registered 501c3 non-profit helping to bring education to some of the poorest of the poor in rural Northern Haiti.  For the past two years, hand-in-hand with the Village Committee of Tremesse, Haiti we’ve been working to educate and feed over 200 children from pre-school through the fifth grade.  Hand for Haiti is the sole means of funding for building and operating the only school in Tremesse Village: The Solidarity School. Our vision is to work TOGETHER with the children and parents of Tremesse to help them break the cycle of poverty through education — we HELP THEM HELP THEMSELVES.

The parents of the Tremesse are simply desperate to educate their children.  There is no free public education in Haiti, yet before we became involved the villagers were doing everything possible to get their children educated:   they found volunteer teachers and held classes every day under a leaky tarp, with no books, no pens or pencils, and no walls to keep out the rain.  We consider ourselves fortunate to be able to partner with such a dedicated group.  Truly we consider what we do not providing charity, but providing opportunity.

Why Haiti?

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, and one of the poorest countries on earth (145/169, UN Development Program 2010 statstics).  Stepping off a plane in Cap Haitien, it’s hard to believe that a place like Haiti can exist just two hours from Florida – it seems more like somewhere in Africa, and in fact, Haiti on average is poorer than Kenya, Nigeria, The Congo, and Ghana, to name just a few places.  Eighty percent of the country lives below the poverty line, including nearly 2/3rd in abject poverty – meaning that they are essentially fighting to keep from starvation on a daily basis.  Most people truly cannot comprehend how difficult life is in Haiti, but for our group, we knew when we first visited Tremesse that we had to help.

Why Us?

Make your donations make a difference!  Every dollar donated goes directly to Haiti—our board members annually cover any costs incurred in the United States – and there are very few – so you can be sure that your dollars go directly where they are needed – to provide daily meals, buy books, pay teachers, or provide doctor’s visits to our students.  No paid US staff, and almost no overhead:  Hands for Haiti is simply a small group of people committed to making a difference in the lives of children who have no one else to help them.
